A soft right-hand point by the banana plantations — long, rideable walls for improvers.
Banana Point takes its name from the banana plantations that line the valley behind it. It is a soft, long right-hand point break in the Aourir area — an ideal wave for surfers stepping up from the beach breaks.
Banana Point breaks over a cobblestone-and-sand point and delivers a long, gentle right-hander. It is far more forgiving than the heavier points further north: the wall is mellow, the take-off relaxed, and the ride long enough to practise turns and trim without pressure.
It suits intermediate surfers and improving beginners, and it is one of the best spots on the coast to log your first long point-break rides. It works on W-SW swells through the October-to-April season and prefers a mid-to-high tide. The setting — palms, plantations and the valley behind — is one of the prettiest around.
“Banana is all about the long ride — stay in trim rather than forcing turns, and let the wall carry you.”
