The holy grail of Moroccan surfing — a world-class right that can run for over a kilometre.
Anchor Point is the wave that put Morocco on the surf map. On the right NW swell this long, peeling right-hander connects section after section, with rides that can last well over a minute.
Just north of Taghazout, Anchor Point breaks over a boulder-and-reef bottom and favours a mid-to-high tide. It is a true point break: the swell wraps in, lines up against the headland and walls down the point in long, workable faces. When it is firing, the wave can run for more than a kilometre — one of the longest rides anywhere in Africa.
This is an advanced wave. The take-off is steep, the lineup gets busy on a good swell, and the rock entry rewards surfers who already read the ocean well. It works best from October through April when North Atlantic swells march down the coast. If you are still building confidence, our coaches will have you watching Anchor from the channel long before you paddle out.
“Surf it early. The wind stays light at dawn and the crowd is thinner — by mid-morning both pick up fast.”
