Morocco Surf Trip Packing List: Keep It Simple
Going to Morocco to surf is amazing, but packing can be confusing. Here is the super simple, no-stress guide on exactly what you need to bring to Nomad Surf Camp.
What do I really need to pack for Nomad Surf Camp?
Heading to Morocco to surf is the best decision you'll make this year. But packing? That’s where things get stressful. Don’t panic. We run one of the best surf camps around, and we know exactly what people overpack and what they forget.
This is your straight-to-the-point packing list for your stay at Nomad Surf Camp in Tamraght. Keep it simple, useful, and light.
1. The Surf Stuff (What to Wear in the Water)
The water temperature in Morocco is mostly mild, especially during the autumn and winter swell season. You definitely don’t need a thick 5mm suit.
- Wetsuit: A 3/2mm suit is perfect year-round (or a shorty in the peak summer). If you hate packing a wet suit, we have plenty to rent here at Nomad Surf Camp.
- Boardies/Swimsuit: Even if you wear a wetsuit, you need these for lounging, quick dips, and chilling at the beach.
- Rash Guard: Essential for sun protection and avoiding the dreaded "wetsuit rash."
- Reef Boots (Optional): Some spots have a rocky entry, but most popular beginner beaches are sand bottom. If you have sensitive feet, throw them in.
- Towel: A quick-dry microfibre towel is a lifesaver. Leave the huge cotton beach towel at home.
2. The Clothes (Day & Night)
Morocco is relaxed, especially in the Taghazout/Tamraght area, but it’s still important to respect the local culture when you’re outside the camp or the immediate beach area. Modesty goes a long way.
- Light layers: It gets HOT during the day, but the desert air means it cools down fast when the sun drops. Bring a hoodie or a light jacket.
- Cover Ups: Scarves, sarongs, or large shirts are great for quickly covering up shoulders and knees when walking through the village or visiting a market.
- T-Shirts & Tanks: Cotton or linen is best. Keep shoulders covered when you are off the beach.
- Bottoms: Shorts for the beach, but bring trousers or midi-skirts for town trips.
- Footwear: Flip-flops (essential!) and one pair of comfy trainers for walking or traveling.
- Pajamas: Simple, comfy stuff.
3. Health, Documents, and Essentials
This is the serious section. You can borrow a surfboard, but you can’t borrow a passport.
- Passport & Visa: Check if you need a visa before you fly. Also, bring photocopies of your passport just in case.
- Travel Insurance: Seriously, get decent travel insurance that covers surfing and medical emergencies. This is non-negotiable for a top-rated surf camp experience.
- Sunscreen: Bring strong, water-resistant sunscreen (SPF 30+). Moroccon sun is intense. Don't forget a zinc stick for your nose and lips.
- Basic Meds: Painkillers, plaster/bandages, and any prescription medication you need. A small bottle of hand sanitizer is useful, too.
- Money: Bring some Euros or Pounds to exchange when you land, or just hit the ATM in Agadir. You need Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) for small purchases.
- Adapter: Morocco uses the European two-pin plug (Type C or E). Don’t forget yours!
4. Relax, We Got You Covered
