Surfing in Morocco During Ramadan: What to Expect

Wondering if you can surf in Morocco during Ramadan? It is actually one of the best times to visit for empty waves and amazing food.

Is it a good idea to surf in Morocco during Ramadan?

A lot of people ask us if they should come to Morocco during Ramadan. The short answer is: yes, absolutely. It is a very special time here. While the pace of life slows down a bit, the waves are still pumping and the vibe is actually very peaceful.

The Lineups are Way Less Crowded

One of the best things about surfing during this month is that the spots are much quieter. Since many local surfers are fasting, they might not spend as much time in the water during the heat of the day. This means more waves for you. If you are looking for a best experience where you can catch plenty of waves without the usual crowds, this is the time to visit.

Eating and Drinking

During the day, local cafes and restaurants in smaller villages might be closed, but don't worry. At Nomad Surf Camp, we make sure our guests are well-fed. We still serve breakfast and lunch for our surfers. The best part of the day is 'Iftar'—the sunset meal when everyone breaks their fast. It is a huge feast with dates, harira soup, sweets, and fresh bread. It is one of the reasons we are considered among the best surf camp for people who want a real taste of Moroccan culture.

How to be a Respectful Surfer

You don't have to fast, but it’s cool to be respectful. Try not to eat or drink water right in front of people on the street. Save your big snacks for the camp or the beach. The locals will really appreciate the gesture. We take pride in being one of the mellieur surf camps because we help our guests understand the local traditions while still having a blast on the waves.

The Evening Vibe

After sunset, the towns come alive. People are out, the shops open up, and everyone is in a good mood after eating. It is a great time to walk around, grab a tea, and soak up the atmosphere. It is different from the rest of the year, but in a really good, chilled-out way.
